Ms. Ophelia Somers is a character in every sense of the word; blessed with undeniable physical beauty, cutting humor that would disarm the fastest gun in the old west, and a presence that dares you not to notice her, she epitomizes the #MyXXFLY ideology . As her namesake might lead you to believe, Ophelia is an actress/singer worthy of the bard himself. She performs in theater productions across South Florida and does commercial acting work, for example this piece which recently aired in Finland.
When Ophelia expressed interest in modeling for MyXXFLY, the word “psyched” doesn’t cut it, but that’s what we’re going with. When planning for this shoot, Ophelia knew exactly what she wanted. The idea was simple, a pin-up shoot that would turn Ms. Ophelia Somers into the vixen, Lady O. Straight-forward right? Not exactly. Being plus-sized women of color, we are made to feel ashamed of our sexuality. We are taught that we should hide our bodies or that we can’t “pull off” certain looks, but in the words of Ophelia “I got tired of telling myself that I couldn’t, and decided that I can”, and so we fucking did.
The look was styled head to ankles with South Florida thrift store finds and Lady O’s sky-high Torrid heels. The aim? To look like a classic pin-up girl who seems demure on the surface but will turn a motherfucker out when the time comes; and boy did the Lady deliver. The energy during this shoot was next level, because not only was this a long over-due reunion for Ophelia and I, but it was dream-fulfillment at its finest. Time will pass no matter what you do, so make sure that whatever you do, you never stop chasing your dreams. Until next week kids, keep it double-x and fly.
This girl is amazing. We worked together and she is most amazing, sweet, loving creature God has put on this earth. Sadly we both are no longer at that job but her friendship is too precious to let go. She helps to motivate me to learn to love myself because she knows that’s the biggest thing I struggle with. She is and amazing person and no one in their right mind would pass up the opportunity to become her friend!!!!
